Last post of 2013

The title says it all. This is the last update of the year for this blog. I started this halfway 2013 and very late in my creative career, but the responses of the people around me to this blog are great! Thank you! It keeps me motivated in developing my work and puts a smile on my face.

Enough words, time for some art!

I only have a few more pages to go in my slim moleskine booklet. But I intend to use these for more colored work. As you can see, I am starting to use my good old Copic Markers again (Thank you, Lucid) to ad some more atmosphere and perspective.

And last but not least! The "animation" I did for Maastricht University. I did the visuals and they did the voice over and sounds. It was great working with them.

Happy new year everyone!

Sketches, colors and a COMIC UPDATE!

On the left we have some sketches I did in Stockholm. I didn't have a lot of time to draw and the fact that it was starting to get dark at 2 o' clock already wasn't helping either. But it still was a great trip!

On the right are some color tests for the landscapes I drew before. There were based on photo's, but the colors I did from memory. It was more about creating atmosphere. This is just and update and I'll finish these some other time (the water is still mostly blank, due to lack of reflections).

But this is what you all have been waiting for! A continuation of my 24-hour comic. By popular demand I have decided to finish this story and thus create the remaining 12 pages. So from now on I'll be posting new pages as well!

Even though there is no longer any time pressure, I still try to do these fast and efficient.

Help a fellow artist out! He makes some cool stuff that reminds me of Mike Mignola. Hopefully, someday soon in the future I'll be doing a kickstarter of my own stuff. :)

Mucha do about nothing

Another small update. These are the final drawings of the first half of my small moleskine sketchbook. I'm saving up the center pages for something bigger.

Some plants and trees, inspired by the Pixar expo.

Some model poses and sketches. I tried to use some of Proko's techniques for figure drawing.

 Some landscape photography inspiration

November 1st was "self-portrait-day" apparently (according to Sinix).
I took inspiration from the 16th century portraits and Mucha. It's a bit over the top, but a lot of fun to do!

That's it for today! Now I'm off to Stockholm for a few days!

Anthropomorphic objects

As a celebration gift to my university coach and his newborn son.

It was inspired by the PIXAR expo, his musical hobbies and a night of Jaga Jazzist.

Art of walls?!

What is this on the wall?

Yep, I made a piece for my friends Rens and Manon. They asked me a long time ago to make something to put in their "new" home. I've sort of gone nuts with that new stylized way of drawing and drawing influences from mythology.

This photograph of that piece is all I have. If you want to see a clearer picture, you're just going to have to visit them.

Sketches, Scoundrels and Trolls under bridges

All work and no play makes me a dull boy. These are a few I have been able to squeeze in between my activities lately. Stay tuned for more!

24 Hour Comic Day 2013

This year I once again participated in the 24 hour comic dare. The dare is to try to make a comic of 24 pages in 24 hours (http://scottmccloud.com/4-inventions/24hr/). Last year I got six pages done in 12 hours. This year I got 12 pages done in 16. Still no 24 in 24 hours, but I will keep practicing and training.

Together with Tomas Pieters and Timo Bleeker of the Big Bug Collection and Drawality, we set off on our long journey to create comics. We got delayed, came back up to speed and in the end our hands were no longer able to hold pencils.

Below is my result. A small tale about four boys going on their fantastic journey.

Some process and progress shots

It has been a busy week. I've been working hard on animations and study. So here's a small update. I've tried coloring some of the moleskine sketches... all still a WIP.

An earlier attempt that still needs some texture and shading.

D'n'D/Pathfinder Art

Tabletop role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 and the Pathfinder system are great for your creativity and inspiration. I always visualize our characters and actions in game as if it were a cartoon or animated movie. And I'm having a lot of fun doing it.

I even made a mock movie poster for our current campaign.

Yeah, I'm a nerd. But at least it's creative.
